Job Description

School Bus Dispatcher

12-month position, 8 Hours/day, 40 hours/week

 

DUTIES: Under the supervision of the School Transportation Director assists in coordinating and directing the actions of school bus drivers.  A small degree of latitude is exercised by the employee in implementing and carrying out established policies of the transportation program.

Job Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience in school transportation or a related field such as commercial bus or truck transportation. 
  • Possession of the appropriate license to operate a school bus (CDL), issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles at time of appointment with “S” (school bus) endorsement;
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Good knowledge of standard transportation methods and programs as related to school districts.
  • Good knowledge of current New York State Motor Vehicle Laws, rules, and regulations as applied to the operation of school buses.
  • Good knowledge of standard safety practices as applicable to school transportation programs
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships between drivers, parents, principals, and children.
  • Ability to make oral and written reports and the ability to speak effectively
  • Physical condition commensurate with the position
