Behavior Support Specialists

Skoi Yase Primary School & Lafayette Intermediate, probationary appointments

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct support to students: take students for a walk, a break, for a social skills group or intervention.
  • Work with individual students or groups of students on social emotional learning tasks.
  • Provide behavior check-ins with students and/or teachers.
  • Engage in problem solving with the teacher.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to support students.
  • Participate in MTSS meetings when requested.
  • Develop a tracking log to document students receiving support in the Behavior Intervention Center. 
  • Provide crisis management with other support team members.
  • Establish and oversee a behavior intervention center to include reflection, restorative conferencing, and sensory supports.
  • Assist other staff in the management of student behavior when requested.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement behavior intervention plans for individual students.
  • Interpret and share information about students with the teacher and administrator, as necessary.
  • Assist the Tier 1 Team in implementing school-wide incentives, celebrations, and/or practices.

 

SALARY: Teaching Assistant salary per WEA Contract of agreement plus $10,000 extra duty stipend

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:      

  • NYS Teaching Assistant III Certification
  • Minimum 5-years’ experience as a Teaching Assistant
  • TCIS trained with physical restraint or willingness to be trained.
  • Previous experience with restorative practices preferred.
  • Previous experience with behavior intervention preferred.
